Special Delivery IL
Community Unit School District 200 Transition Vocational Coordinators
Kim Graziano and Debi Thomas
work within the communities of Wheaton and Warrenville Illinois developing employment training opportunities for young adults with moderate to severe disabilities.
Community businesses allow their students to come in, train, and develop the necessary vocational and social skills to secure and retain paid employment.
While a great number of students gain, and sustain, paid employment, not all of the students in their program are able to secure paid positions in the community.
Their story is the same as many other districts, towns, and communities across the nation.
Challenged with not enough training opportunities or businesses to employ the 18+ year old students, they began to wonder
“ What can we do to employ our students?”
and the concept of Special Delivery IL was born.
Special Delivery IL is a company that packages family oriented monthly subscriptions. Each package is themed and has an activity, product and/or project to bring families together. The employees of Special Delivery IL, referred to as “pickers and packers” are responsible for picking the products from bins, packing the goods and labeling the packages for shipping.
Special Delivery is a unique subscription company designed with the concept of giving back to others.
Many of the students in the Transition Program would not be employed if it were not for the generosity of business leaders who have opened their doors and mindsets to the concept of training young
adults with differing abilities.
